Virendra Pokhriyal Promises a Corruption-Free and Clean Dehradun in His Election Campaign

Dehradun: In his ongoing campaign for the mayoral election, Congress candidate Virendra Pokhriyal made a bold statement, promising to transform Dehradun into a cleaner, more beautiful city. With a focus on tackling corruption and improving public services, Pokhriyal critiqued the current administration, alleging corruption during the BJP's tenure in the Dehradun Municipal Corporation.

Pokhriyal, who has been actively engaging with citizens through padyatras, visited several localities including DL Road, Karampur, Nalapani, and Tarla Amwala, among others. During his visits, he highlighted concerns about the Mohalla Swachhta Committees and alleged misuse of funds meant for cleanliness initiatives. He emphasized that if elected, the Congress-led administration would take strict actions against those involved in these alleged irregularities.

The Congress candidate also addressed the issue of public spaces, criticizing the BJP for imposing restrictions on gatherings at places like Gandhi Park and Parade Ground. Pokhriyal suggested that such actions were meant to stifle opposition voices, and he assured citizens that a Congress administration would allow people to voice their concerns freely.

Another key issue raised by Pokhriyal was the BJP's handling of the Smart City project, where he claimed there were significant financial discrepancies. He accused the ruling party of misappropriating funds under the guise of the project’s development.

A major part of Pokhriyal's pitch was to support the city's slum areas, which he argued are at risk of being dismantled under the current administration. He expressed confidence that Congress would protect these areas and improve living conditions.

Throughout the campaign, Pokhriyal was joined by key Congress figures, including former legislator Rajkumar and former city president Lal Chand Sharma. Together, they called on the residents of Dehradun to support the Congress party in the upcoming election, promising a government that prioritizes the people’s well-being and accountability in governance.

Pokhriyal’s statements and his campaign have sparked discussions among Dehradun's citizens, with some supporting his message of change, while others remain cautious of his promises. As the election approaches, the debate continues on the future direction of the city and the leadership best suited to address its challenges.
