Dehradun: With the municipal elections in Uttarakhand gaining momentum, Congress has ramped up its election campaign across the state. Senior leaders, including Congress State Co-Incharge Surendra Sharma and State President Karan Mahara, held a series of meetings, public rallies, and election-related events to mobilize support for their party candidates.
Addressing gatherings in Rishikesh, Surendra Sharma inaugurated several election offices of Congress candidates in areas such as Suman Vihar, Mukherjee Marg, Chandreshwar Nagar, and 20 Bigha. He urged party workers and officials to remain united and expose what he called the “anti-people policies” of the BJP. “The BJP has failed to deliver on promises in municipal bodies. Issues like poor sanitation, stalled development, and alleged misuse of public land have left voters disillusioned. This is the time for Congress workers to channel their energy into ensuring the party’s success,” Sharma said during his speeches.
Meanwhile, Congress State President Karan Mahara led an energetic campaign in Haldwani and Kashipur. Speaking at public gatherings, Mahara held the BJP and its representatives accountable for what he described as the deteriorating state of municipal bodies. “Drainage systems have collapsed, sanitation is non-existent, streetlights don’t function, and parks are in shambles. The BJP administration has ignored these basic necessities while focusing on mismanaging public funds,” he alleged.
Mahara also criticized the delay in holding municipal elections, stating, “For over a year, the BJP government avoided elections, relying on administrators to manage municipal affairs. It took pressure from the opposition and the intervention of the High Court to ensure that elections were finally held. This delay is indicative of the BJP’s reluctance to face the people.”
Both leaders emphasized the importance of Congress workers spreading awareness about the alleged corruption and inefficiency of the BJP-led municipal administrations. They expressed confidence that voters, frustrated with stalled development and mismanagement, would support Congress candidates in large numbers.
Mahara concluded by stating, “These elections are not just about municipal bodies; they are a chance to hold the BJP government accountable. A Congress victory will send a strong message, pressuring the government to curb corruption and focus on development.”
As municipal elections approach, Congress aims to leverage its grassroots efforts and public discontent to secure significant victories in key urban areas across the state.
