Congress Stages Massive Protest Against Alleged Adani-BJP Corruption and Manipur Violence

Dehradun, December 18: The Congress party staged a massive protest across the country today, targeting the alleged corruption in the Adani-BJP nexus and highlighting the ongoing violence in Manipur. The protest, which culminated in marches to various Raj Bhavans, saw widespread participation from Congress leaders and workers.

In Dehradun, the march was led by Uttarakhand Congress President Karan Mahara. Starting from the state Congress office, the rally moved towards the Raj Bhavan, with slogans raised against the central government’s alleged inaction on key issues. The march saw the participation of senior leaders, legislators, former MPs, and thousands of party workers.
Mahara addressed the gathering, citing allegations of financial misconduct against industrialist Gautam Adani by the US Department of Justice. He claimed these allegations exposed a pattern of bribery, money laundering, and market manipulation that tarnished India's financial credibility. Mahara accused the central government of shielding Adani by stalling parliamentary discussions on the matter and called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe.

Mahara also criticized the government for the rising cost of living, pointing to the increase in LPG prices from ₹450 to over ₹1,100 during the Modi administration’s tenure. He alleged that this burden on the common man benefited a few corporate houses close to the ruling party, suggesting that these firms were significant contributors to BJP’s election funding.

On the issue of Manipur, Mahara expressed concern over the prolonged violence and instability in the state, which has persisted for nearly two years. He criticized the BJP-led central and state governments for failing to address the crisis and condemned the Prime Minister’s lack of a visit to the conflict-hit region.

The protest also highlighted local issues in Uttarakhand. Mahara accused the state government of facilitating illegal mining, fostering the illegal liquor trade, and neglecting environmental concerns. He demanded stringent land laws to curb land-grabbing by external entities, which he said was forcing locals into despair. He also raised the unresolved Ankita Bhandari murder case and called for the disclosure of the alleged involvement of influential figures.

During the protest, Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, and other prominent figures, joined Mahara in voicing their demands. The rally concluded with the arrest of Congress leaders and workers as they attempted to breach the barricades near Raj Bhavan. They were later taken to the police lines.

The Congress party has demanded a JPC investigation into the Adani allegations, the dismissal of the Manipur state government, stricter action against illegal activities in Uttarakhand, and the implementation of robust land laws to protect the rights of local residents.

The protest underscores the Congress’s efforts to spotlight issues of governance and accountability as it continues its opposition to the ruling BJP at both state and national levels.
