Dehradun, December 23 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended a warm welcome to the announcement of municipal elections in Uttarakhand, expressing confidence in securing victory across all municipal corporations and most local bodies. The party also praised the reservation notification, calling it both procedurally sound and reflective of public sentiment.
BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt lauded the state government’s approach to finalizing reservations, noting that public objections were thoroughly addressed before the announcement. “For the first time, public sentiments have been given due consideration in determining reservations for municipal bodies. The government’s notification, issued after a comprehensive review process, is a step in the right direction, and the BJP fully supports it,” he said.
A Mood of Enthusiasm Among Party Workers
Bhatt highlighted the wave of enthusiasm among party workers and the general public following the election announcement. “There’s a collective eagerness to contribute to the sustained development of municipal areas, and many BJP members are keen to serve as public representatives,” he added.
To ensure a transparent and inclusive candidate selection process, the BJP had dispatched observer teams to all municipal corporations, councils, and panchayats. These teams have submitted their reports, which will be reviewed in detail over the next two days. On December 24, discussions will focus on the Kumaon division, followed by deliberations on the Garhwal division on December 26. The observers will provide district-wise feedback on potential candidates for positions such as mayor, municipal council presidents, panchayat heads, and ward members.
Strategic Plans in Motion
Bhatt revealed that the party’s strategy for municipal elections is already in place and will be implemented following the election schedule. Alongside analyzing observers' reports, the party has commenced groundwork surveys. Preliminary discussions have been held with district in-charges and office bearers to align organizational goals. The BJP aims to finalize candidates through a robust, three-tiered process, ensuring thorough vetting and consultation at every level.
Strengthening Booth Committees
As part of the BJP’s Sangathan Parv (Organization Festival), meetings of booth committees within municipal areas will be organized. These sessions will focus on informing local voters about the developmental and welfare initiatives undertaken by both the central and state governments.
Confident in the party’s organizational strength and preparation, Bhatt declared a near-total victory as the BJP’s target, emphasizing the party’s commitment to achieving its goals across Uttarakhand’s municipal bodies.
