Dehradun, December 19, 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the alleged misconduct led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Parliament, calling it a disgraceful act that undermines democratic values. Addressing the media, Rajya Sabha MP and Uttarakhand BJP President Mahendra Bhatt accused the Congress of spreading false narratives and engaging in undignified behavior in the parliamentary complex.
Bhatt alleged that the Congress, in a premeditated move, created an edited video of Home Minister Amit Shah's speech to falsely accuse the BJP of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He claimed that the Congress has long attempted to mislead the public with allegations about the BJP’s stance on the Constitution and reservations.
"The entire nation saw how Home Minister Amit Shah, during the debate on Constitution Day, highlighted how Congress repeatedly disrespected Babasaheb Ambedkar during his lifetime and even after his passing. They ignored his contributions, failed to award him the Bharat Ratna for decades, and neglected his legacy sites. Now, they are using his name to spread lies in Parliament,” Bhatt said.
He further criticized the Congress for alleged unruly behavior in the Lok Sabha, including an attack on BJP MPs, which reportedly left some injured. Bhatt also claimed that a tribal woman MP from Nagaland faced inappropriate treatment during the incident, calling it “deeply regrettable and unacceptable.”
Demanding accountability, Bhatt called for Rahul Gandhi to resign as Leader of the Opposition on moral grounds and issued a public apology from the Congress party.
The BJP leader accused Congress of being rattled after the Prime Minister and Home Minister presented facts during the parliamentary debate, exposing what he described as Congress’s historical mistreatment of Ambedkar. He also highlighted public rejection of Congress's narratives in states like Haryana and Maharashtra, citing these as examples of their declining credibility.
The incident has added another layer to the ongoing tensions between the BJP and Congress, with both parties accusing each other of disrespecting democratic and constitutional principles. Observers predict the debate will escalate further as the BJP continues to press for apologies and accountability.
