Wedding Brawl in UP: Groom's Kiss Sparks Family Clash, Police Detain Seven

A wedding in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district descended into chaos on Monday after a groom's kiss led to a violent altercation between the bride and groom's families. The incident occurred during the varmala ceremony at a venue in Ashok Nagar, turning the celebration into a battleground.

Tensions flared when the groom kissed the bride, prompting an enraged response from her family. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, with the bride's relatives storming the stage armed with sticks and attacking the groom's family. Six people, including the bride's father, were injured in the melee.

The police were called to the scene and detained seven individuals from both families. The injured were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

According to police, the bride's father had arranged for both of his daughters to be married on the same night. While the first ceremony concluded without incident, the second wedding took a dramatic turn following the controversial kiss.

The bride's family accused the groom of forcibly kissing her, while the groom claimed that the bride had requested the kiss after the varmala exchange. Senior Hapur police officer Rajkumar Agarwal noted that no formal complaint had been filed by either party at this time, and further action would be contingent on receiving a complaint.

The six individuals involved in the brawl have been charged with disturbing public peace under Section 151 of the Indian Penal Code. As the situation calms down, this incident highlights the volatility that can arise from cultural and personal sensitivities during significant life events.
