A 25-year-old Delhi resident, Prince Mavi, was arrested on Friday after videos surfaced showing him performing dangerous stunts with his SUV near Amity University in Noida. The footage, widely shared on social media, depicts Mavi driving a Mahindra Thar, registered in Haryana, and braking perilously close to pedestrians, causing fear and panic among college students and other passersby.
The incident caught the attention of the Noida police after the videos went viral. In response, an investigation was promptly initiated. "On Friday, a viral video on social media came to notice in which a Mahindra Thar registered in Haryana was seen dangerously performing stunts, putting the lives of people in danger on the road of a private university in Sector-125, Noida," a police spokesperson said. Following the investigation, Mavi, who resides in Hari Nagar Extension Part-2 in Delhi, was arrested.
In addition to his arrest, Mavi has been heavily fined for multiple violations of road traffic rules. The Noida traffic police issued challans totaling ₹35,000. These fines were imposed for several infractions, including the use of tinted glasses, the presence of faulty number plates with casteist inscriptions, dangerous driving, and violations of air pollution standards.
The videos show Mavi's SUV dangerously close to pedestrians, including college-going men and women, who appeared visibly terrified by his actions. This reckless behavior has raised significant concern among the public and the authorities.
"The vehicle has been impounded, and based on the video evidence, an FIR was registered at the local Sector-126 police station," the police spokesperson added.
The case highlights the severe consequences of reckless driving and endangering public safety. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing traffic laws strictly to prevent such dangerous behavior on the roads.
The arrest and fines serve as a stern warning to others who might engage in similar activities, emphasizing the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.
