BJP Leaders Pay Tribute on 40th Anniversary of Bhopal Gas Tragedy

Bhopal, 03/12/2024: On the somber occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, BJP State President and Khajuraho MP Vishnudutt Sharma, along with State Organization General Secretary Hitanand Ji, paid heartfelt tributes to those who lost their lives in the catastrophic industrial disaster. The leaders also extended their prayers for the well-being and health of the affected families.

Reflecting on the devastating incident, MP Vishnudutt Sharma expressed deep condolences for the victims and their families, emphasizing the enduring impact of the tragedy. "Forty years ago, thousands of innocent lives were lost due to the toxic gas leak from the Union Carbide plant. The painful memories of this disaster still shake our conscience," said Sharma. He highlighted that the Bhopal Gas Tragedy remains one of the world’s worst industrial accidents, with its aftershocks continuing to haunt the people of Bhopal.

The tragedy, which occurred during the intervening night of December 2 and 3, 1984, claimed over 15,000 lives and left countless others grappling with chronic health conditions caused by exposure to the lethal gas. Sharma noted that the long-term impact of the tragedy extends beyond the immediate fatalities, leaving many survivors to live a life of perpetual suffering. “This disaster not only led to the untimely demise of thousands but also turned many survivors into living shadows of their former selves," he remarked.

Stressing the importance of vigilance to prevent such incidents in the future, Sharma called for proactive measures and stringent safety protocols to avert similar industrial disasters. "We must learn from this tragedy and ensure that such horrific events never occur again," he added.

The remembrance event underscored the need for continued support and rehabilitation for the affected families, alongside efforts to ensure industrial safety and accountability in the years to come.
