In a tragic turn of events, a woman in Karnataka threw her six-year-old special needs son into a canal infested with crocodiles following a dispute with her husband. The child's body, partly consumed by crocodiles, was discovered the next day, according to police reports.
The incident unfolded in Uttara Kannada district, where 32-year-old Savitri, employed as a house help, frequently clashed with her husband Ravi Kumar, 36, over their deaf and mute son, Vinod. Allegedly, Ravi had been persistently pressuring Savitri to dispose of their son, claiming that the child was a burden.
Savitri, in her statement to the police, attributed the drastic act to her husband's relentless coercion and verbal abuse. She expressed anguish over the repeated taunts and the emotional distress it caused her and her son.
Following yet another altercation on Saturday, Savitri took her son to the nearby canal and threw him into the waters infested with crocodiles. Local residents alerted authorities, prompting a search operation. Tragically, the child's body was recovered the next day, bearing signs of crocodile attack.
Both Ravi and Savitri have been apprehended, and authorities have filed murder charges against them. The harrowing incident underscores the need for support systems and intervention in cases of domestic conflict and mental distress.
