Opposition Leaders Label Terror Attack as "Pre-Poll Stunt," BJP Condemns Remark

The recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, resulting in the death of an Indian Air Force soldier, has sparked political controversy, with opposition leaders Charanjit Singh Channi and Tej Pratap Yadav alleging it to be a "stunt" orchestrated to benefit the BJP in the ongoing elections.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Channi and RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav drew parallels with the 2019 Pulwama attack, accusing the BJP of playing with people's lives and bodies for political gains. Channi dismissed the attack as a "stunt" during his campaign in Jalandhar, while Yadav echoed similar sentiments in Patna.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur condemned the remarks, highlighting the sacrifices of the armed forces and accusing the opposition of undermining national security. He criticized the Congress for alleged inaction during its tenure and questioned their commitment to the armed forces.

Punjab leader Sunil Jakhar also criticized Channi's statement, emphasizing the seriousness of national security issues and the sacrifices made by the armed forces.

The 2019 Pulwama attack had become a pivotal issue during the general elections, with national security dominating political discourse. India's retaliatory strikes in Balakot heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, further intensifying the electoral debate.

Despite initial scrutiny, the Congress has softened its stance over the years, wary of being accused by the BJP of doubting the armed forces.

The terror attack in Poonch resulted in the death of Corporal Vikky Pahade and left four other soldiers injured, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for unity in addressing security challenges.
