Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Rajmohan Unnithan issued a scathing rebuke on Saturday, May 11, directed at local party leaders who participated in the wedding reception of the son of an accused individual in the notorious Periya double murder case. The wedding celebration in question was that of the son of N Balakrishnan, identified as the 13th accused in the murder of Youth Congress workers Sarath Lal and Kripesh. Balakrishnan, a former local secretary of the Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPI-M) in Periya, was among the few individuals who secured bail among the 24 accused in the case.

The Congress took disciplinary action against Periya’s mandalam president, Pramod Periya, by removing him from his position after his attendance at the wedding function on May 8. Pramod alleged that he was singled out due to personal vendettas, emphasizing that other Congress leaders also participated in the event without facing consequences.
Expressing his discontent on Facebook, Rajmohan Unnithan condemned the Congress leaders' involvement in the wedding festivities, asserting that they did not merit forgiveness. He questioned the credibility of the purported alliance between the Congress and the CPI-M in Kasaragod, suggesting that it may have adversely affected his prospects in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Rajmohan, the Congress party’s candidate from the Kasaragod constituency, emphasized, "There is no forgiveness for those who hurt the souls of martyrs."
The gruesome murders of Sarath Lal and Kripesh allegedly perpetrated by CPI(M) members in Kasaragod in 2019 continue to evoke strong reactions and condemnations.
