Mallikarjun Kharge Addresses INDIA Bloc Protest, Raises Concerns Over Caste Politics

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, addressing a protest organized by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) at Jantar Mantar, expressed concerns over the politicization of caste by those holding constitutional posts. The protest was in response to the suspension of 146 MPs during the Winter Session of Parliament.

Kharge emphasized the responsibility of individuals in constitutional roles to provide protection to opposition MPs without involving caste considerations. He made a veiled reference to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, who had recently alleged insult based on his background as a Jat.

The Congress leader questioned the practice of preventing him from speaking in Parliament and highlighted the importance of upholding democratic values. The comments came as part of a broader protest against the suspension of MPs and a call for unity to protect democracy.

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and leaders from various opposition parties, including NCP, CPI-M, DMK, TMC, JMM, RJD, and others, attended the protest. Gandhi asserted that the suspension of opposition members was a result of seeking answers on the Parliament security breach.

The protest, organized under the banner 'Save Democracy,' aims to convey the message that recent events are detrimental to the country's future. Opposition leaders emphasized the need for unity to counteract what they perceive as threats to democracy under the current government.

The demonstration at Jantar Mantar is part of ongoing efforts by the INDIA Alliance to address concerns related to the Winter Session and build public awareness about the perceived challenges to democratic values.
