Navratri, which literally translates to "nine nights," is a significant Hindu festival observed with great enthusiasm throughout India. It is a time for spiritual introspection, fasting, and prayer. Each of the nine nights is dedicated to a different form of Goddess Durga, symbolizing different aspects of power, wisdom, and compassion.
The first night of Navratri, known as Ghatasthapana, involves establishing a small clay pot filled with soil and seeds. This pot, called a 'kalash,' is decorated with flowers, fruits, and a coconut and is considered a symbol of prosperity and abundance.
Throughout the nine nights, devotees will visit temples, perform pujas, and offer prayers to the Goddess. Many will also observe a strict fast, abstaining from certain foods and beverages.
